Can SoftWave Help Neck-Related Headaches? What Patients Need to Know

Headaches are one of the most common things I see in the office.

But not all headaches are the same.

Many people assume their headaches are coming from stress, dehydration, or hormones. And while those can absolutely play a role, there is another source that often gets overlooked.

The neck.

If you feel tension at the base of your skull, tightness through your shoulders, or headaches that seem to build from the back of your head and move forward, your neck is very likely involved.

What Are Neck-Related Headaches?

Neck-related headaches, often referred to as cervicogenic headaches, originate from dysfunction in the cervical spine and surrounding soft tissue.

This can include:

  • Tight or overworked muscles
  • Restricted joint motion
  • Postural stress
  • Chronic tension patterns through the neck and shoulders

These headaches often show up as:

  • A dull ache starting at the base of the skull
  • Pressure moving toward the temples or behind the eyes
  • Increased symptoms after screen time or long periods of sitting
  • Neck stiffness or limited mobility alongside the headache

For many people, the headache is just the signal. The root issue is how the neck is functioning.

Why I Do Not Start With SoftWave for Headaches

This is important.

When it comes to headaches, I do not start with SoftWave.

Headaches, especially those connected to the neck, are often tied to how the spine and nervous system are functioning. That is where I begin.

The first step is making sure the structure is supported and the nervous system is able to regulate properly.

Once that foundation is in place, then we can look at what else is contributing.

Where SoftWave Actually Fits In

After a patient is under care and we have improved the structural component, I will sometimes add SoftWave as a support tool.

Not for the head itself.

But for the muscles that are constantly overworking, especially the traps and upper shoulders.

When these muscles stay in a chronic state of tension, they can continue to pull on the neck and contribute to recurring symptoms.

SoftWave helps by:

  • Reducing persistent muscle tension
  • Improving blood flow to overworked areas
  • Breaking up adhesions that keep muscles tight
  • Helping the body come out of that constant “holding” pattern

This makes it easier for the body to maintain the changes we are creating with care.

What Patients Notice

When we combine the right structure with improved soft tissue function, patients often notice:

  • Less baseline tension in the neck and shoulders
  • Fewer triggers for their headaches
  • Reduced intensity when headaches do occur
  • A greater sense of ease in their body overall

It is not about chasing the headache. It is about changing the environment that keeps it coming back.

The Bigger Picture

If you have been dealing with recurring headaches, the goal is not just short term relief.

The goal is to understand what is driving the pattern and address it in the right order.

Structure first.
Then support the tissue.

That is where real, lasting change happens.

Ready to Look at This Differently

If headaches have been part of your normal for too long, it may be time to look at what your neck is doing underneath.

Call or text the office to schedule a consultation and we can talk through what approach makes the most sense for you.
